This figure I didn’t pre-order. Initially I planned to skip it as ODD had some other releases coming up that were more my jam. But then the Chinese Crackdown hit, ODD split up and this became the last release of “old ODD”, and their upcoming designs were scrapped. The ODD brand continues – but as part of Apex (formerly Fish Head Man). Not to be confused with Apex Innovation.

As the release drew nearer, I decided I wanted to get it even if it was just to review it. However listings on Taobao were dry – previous ODD releases there was a decent amount of leftover stock. I’m in the ODD WeChat group, and one person was offering up a preorder – they ordered her twice by mistake. I did consider adding my hat into the ring but ultimately decided not to, especially as someone else chimed in with “why not list it in Xianyu?”. And that got me browsing… and finding a couple of people offering their preorders up on Xianyu. Initially I tried a cheaper preorder but the seller never responded to the shopping agent. The second one was for MSRP (CN¥1,280), and they came back quickly. Yay!

One nerve-wracking wait later… it was at the proxy! I went for the usual closed-box inspection, so then I spent the next 2 weeks fretting I screwed myself over and that there was potential there was nothing in the box especially as it was lighter than I expected. Thankfully my random fears were unfounded, and arrived just fine. Outside of the small brain, this piece is smaller than my other ODD pieces. She was listed at 20cm, but sometimes small facts like that don’t enter into my brain somehow.

Shipping-wise, the box was 36x29x20cm and 1370g. Overall she cost CN¥1,425 (£153) with shipping and service fees. One advantage of the small size and weight was international shipping was really cheap.

Box

For the main image we have this on two sides of the box:

No, that’s not me failing at photography – the image is pixelated and blurry on the box. Looks like they took one of the promo images and resized it. Well, at least it lets us know what’s in the box roughly.

The other two sides:

Google Translate says this says “Holy Water Machine”. Probably the nicest looking side.

The top and the bottom of the box are just black.

Foam inner:

Nice compact design – not much wastage of space here. Thick enough border on the foam so that parts can’t get dented from the outside. There was a foam block above the part on the left, but removed it for this photo.

Overall, the box is functional. Not winning any design awards with the outer. Can understand they couldn’t show the figure on the box, but the whole thing is very lazy. I’m fine with the writing on the sides, but the front image could’ve been the holy water dispenser from the “SFW” side or some kind of imagery reminiscent of the theme but not the figure itself. The foam inner did its job of protecting the parts and the items weren’t too hard to remove.

Front:

Nothing suspect going on here. Just a tap and decorative panel. The top detail is well-sculpted and has a nice golden finish to it. The tap magnetically attaches to the panel – it can be knocked off/turned around if you accidentally hit it but strong enough to stay in place whilst on display. The wood has a nice dark cherry wood appearance. It’s not the most realistic wood texture I’ve seen but does the job. The silver fixtures are also nicely detailed.

Up close some of the sculpt looks a little imprecise – most notably the lines at the ends. The cross signifies this is supposed to be holy water – can reserve judgement for later.

Three-quarters view:

Here we can see the tap in better detail – looks the part, no complaints here.

Sides:

Both sides are the same – I like the way they continued the gold edging here too. The bottom scroll could’ve done with more distinct sculpting, but it’s a minor issue. We also have a carved detail to stop the sides from looking too plain. On the left side I do have a little bit of escaped gold paint at the bottom on the wooden lip.

Around the back:

Here we have an interesting divot and a more conventional one. The wooden texture wasn’t fully carried on into the upper recess – not sure why.

Cushion:

Here we have a shaped cushion, showing something is going to fit here. I have a feeling most who are reading this know what. There is also a square divot for an accessory – ended up using this as a guide of which way the walls of the holy water cabinet should fit – it can slot on either way around as there are no attaching pegs. Or not at all if you want the full view.

So let’s attach the accessories:

Both of these magnetically fasten to the wood. They both attach well without being too easy to knock off.

And here we find out that holy water is… princess pee. She’s referred to as “姬”, which can translate a few different ways. Not sure if they are intending to imply she’s royal (which fits in with the theme for me) – so went with the “princess” translation. But it can just mean “girl”/concubine, which is the translation I’ve seen other sites go for. But would it be holy water if she wasn’t a royal?

Whatever she is, she’s incredibly flexible! Overall, the body sculpt and paintwork is good. If she’s under strong lighting she does look a bit overly shiny around the knees. It doesn’t show up in all lighting conditions, but could’ve done with a bit more of a matte finish. If you like extreme positions, this figure is for you. For those that is isn’t for, I expect they left at the photo above.

Assembly is straightforward – she basically comes in one piece – just need to attach the bar that goes from her wrists to her anus. When putting her into the holy water stand, the extractor fits easily into her vagina. The drool does just sit in front of her face, so it can look out-of-place if she isn’t positioned exactly right. Would’ve potentially been nice if there was a way for it to connect with her face, but being clear there isn’t much options for a connector. Maybe if it could peg into the ball-gag? It’s not a dealbreaker as you can get it positioned up right. She’s not a large figure, so if she’s not quite in place it doesn’t show off too badly at a viewing distance.

If you got past the reveal, I assume you want to see more. Her face:

Her face has a nice amount of detail – blushing face, tears, an expression saying she isn’t enjoying this… She did take the time to do her nails though. Whilst I don’t usually go in for figures that look like they’re being tortured, I find ODD figures are so far into the fantasy aspect that I don’t “connect” with them in that way.

One thing you do notice this close up is that her hair floats. So if you’re viewing her straight-on you will see this, but I think this figure is best viewed from above. Still, would’ve been nice if the hair could fit on the stand properly.

The ball-gag someone took the time to sculpt for sure – kind of impressed they detailed the straps going to her toes.

Where the sausage water is made:

The water extractor fits well. She’s also got detail around her anus. This close up we can see how some of the inner labia paint is a little off – more on that later.

Now onto an accessory I wasn’t sure what it was at first:

Just had these two clear bits and some putty. Water for the tap? More drool?

Nope, tears:

This was using the included putty – even from a distance you could see the white putty and it didn’t look very good.

Tried again with some slivers of glue dot:

This was less distracting but was still so-so. I don’t have any clear putty/gel. This at least looks OK, but I messed up her left tear quite badly so the sticky wasn’t holding well.

In the end, I ended up picking off the putty and the glue dots and putting the tears back into the box. Don’t think she really needs them, but I think if you were planning to apply them some clear museum gel would be in order, plus a bucket of patience – these things are about 1cm long so positioning them is a pain. If you’re willing to put in the time, a sliver of glue dot may work, but be prepared to mangle a couple in the process. Overall, I’d just say leave these in the box, or you could use the straight one to be dripping water from the tap. She already has some tears painted on her eyes, so not sure why they felt like including these too – I’m guessing to match the 3D drool. They weren’t in the original promo images, but did find one factory photo with the left tear so I assume from the shape of the other it is for the right eye. Or maybe you’re supposed to use one or the other? Not sure.

Looks like they put the putty at the top, but with the photo not being fully in focus I think it looks better than it would do in real life – I think the putty would be far more noticeably putty if the photo was properly in focus.

Close-ups without the stand

I found she balanced well without the stand, then I realised later that it was intended you can just display her on the cushion without the holy water tap surround. So if you don’t want the “holy” motif, you can do away with the upper part of the stand. So let’s have a closer look at her without the surround.

Front:

Off the stand, the hair actually touches the floor. Looking pretty much the same as before. Only no stand.

Top of her head:

The hair has a good amount of strands in it. There is a bit of a gap at her parting that could’ve been improved. I like the way they have a couple of strands going up her back.

Face:

She looks fine without the drool. Or the extra tears.

Close-up on the wrist restraint:

From this angle it looks a little odd because they did make it good and chunky to fit it onto her wrists – you only see it when you’re looking at her from a specific angle so fine with this compromise to make a stronger part that securely fits to her arms. We can also see the bead/knot that attaches to the rope that goes to the bar.

Does. Not. Look. Comfy. Not that it is supposed to be – but oof. Definitely an incentive not to move her arms.

Top view:

She has some detail in her vagina. Though for some reason the paint is really sloppy around her labia minora, with the paint bleeding out onto her labia majora. With the amount of detail put into the rest of the figure, not sure why this bit was done so messily. I didn’t really notice it until I was doing these photos without the base – it is mostly obscured when she’s on the base, but if you want to display her solo I feel like this would be a bit of a dealbreaker. I only have a sample of one so not sure if I just got unlucky or if others are like this.

From the sides:

Definitely get to appreciate the extremeness of the pose from the sides. Not impossible for a contortionist, but I doubt it is comfortable. Can see the effort that has gone into sculpting her body and her boobs don’t have boob weld from this angle thanks to the pose. We can see she also painted her fingernails.

Tummy:

Plenty of shading on her body to accentuate her shape. And some squished boobage. Plus the second of what I’d consider a large paint error – the rope isn’t painted very well on this side and her skin colour “leaks” onto the rope. Again, something you won’t see if you’re using the full base but will see if you’re not using the sides.

Underneath:

Found a small amount of boob weld! Her nipples are nicely sculpted and painted. Here we can see the flatter surfaces on her hair to help her stand. Impressively, she doesn’t have much in the way of flattened surfaces for her to stand.

And she also stands the other way up:

She’s surprisingly stable this way up. And you get to ignore the major paint errors, though you will see the flattened areas of hair.

Can also get a good angle on the boobs:

She’s of a decent size without being comically big. They’re also shaped nicely so they look like boobs and not water balloons. A number of more extreme fetish figures can go rather overboard in this aspect so nice to see something more natural-looking.

And one bonus shot from the side:

She does lean over when put this way up, so not sure how stable she would be for display purposes. Would be looking to have her supported some way if displaying the wrong way up. Right way up she balances fine, and you can use the base bottom for more support.

Conclusion

I feel like this one is very much a niche figure – either you’re going to be into this or not. The religious theming is probably going to put some people off, but there is an option to do away with it. Without the surround she can just be a contortionist in bondage, and you can include the “water extractor” if you so wish. I like the way there are these display options. The strap and bar going to her anus you can’t really leave off though – it leaves a noticeable hole in her arm restraints.

Overall, the paint and sculpt quality is very good but there are some areas that could do with improvement – most notable being the painting on her labia. Seems an odd place to have subpar painting on a figure intended to be nude fetish figure. The drool can look odd seeing as it doesn’t attach to her face or the gag, but I don’t think it’s a dealbreaker. You could do without it, but it will leave a gap on the base.

The tears were a strange inclusion – I don’t think she needs 3D tears, but they’re there if you want to attempt to attach them or use them for some other purpose. I’m content to leave them in the box.

Overall would I recommend this figure? Yes, if it’s your thing though I’d bear in mind it’s a small figure – she’s about 12cm tall and the stand is about 20cm tall so you’re not getting a lot of figure for your money. However you are getting something that is unlikely to be replicated in the current market apart from maybe Insight. And anyone in this collecting space is likely aware of their reputation…

No special backstory to ordering this one – stumbled across it when it went up for preorder and decided to give it a punt. Total including shipping was £204.57.

Box

The box isn’t anything too special – same photo of the figure on the front and back, NERV logo on the sides and the Model Power Studio logo on the top. The double effect of the statue on the main picture is nice though it would’ve been nice to see the full statue on one of the sides.

Figure Spin-around

This statue came out very close to the pre-order images. Nice to get something close to the provided images, especially in the unlicensed space.

With this figure it came in only four parts – the base, Kaworu himself and two wings – plus the four feathers. It was a breath of fresh air to have a resin statue that was simple to assemble. The base was a bit hard to get out of the packaging hole it was in – I’m not sure the EPE layers were glued quite right on mine. Otherwise assembly was a breeze. Did have some confusion of where each feather was supposed to go, but decided to go with my own configuration – the most curved one is supposed to go on the chain and the one his hand is supposed to be in one of the LCL splashes. However, I put the feather in his hand and it looked right there so I stuck with it. The feather did at first wedge in there but eventually fell out and wouldn’t stay so I got my own tack to keep it in place.

Figure Close-ups

Face:

He has an anime face, which makes a nice change from realistic faces on resins. I like the deep red of his eyes and his mouth has been sculpted well. The hair has a good amount of shading and details in the sculpt.

Back of his head:

His hair is also well-shaded and sculpted back here too. Lovely and spiky.

Shirt:

His shirt is heavily shaded which I like, though some people may find it overdone. I like the way they have sculpted his pocket and undershirt flopping open – a lot of figures leave this flat to his shirt/body.

Body:

He’s a very handsome fellah. The belt is nicely painted and we have some nice sculptwork in the trousers. The trousers are a bit shiny – would’ve preferred them to be more matte, but shinyish trousers isn’t uncommon on Evangelion figures.

Wing close-up:

A lot of sculptwork went into the wings – each feather has its details sculpted, no half-assing here. They’ve even added in little bits of damage/ruffling. I love the way the wings have the purple fade at the tips. They’re a very nice pair of wings. Probably my favourite pair of feathered wings on a figure.

Arm:

The skin unfortunately has that resiny shine to it. The sculpt is nice but could’ve done with some kind of top coat to get the shine down in my opinion. The skin tone is a nice shade. His fingernails are sculpted though he’s not a bloke who paints his nails.

Hand holding feather:

He just holds it so perfectly… Not intended to be, but it somehow gives the figure a whole different vibe. Like he’s confidently an angel.

Boot:

Time and care have been taken to recreate his boots. They didn’t skimp on the soles either.

The rock:

For me, this is the weakest bit of the statue – it has the appearance of a theme park rock. Just has that plastic-y finish that you’d expect of cheaper outdoor décor. The texture is reasonably rocky, the shading at the top is nice plus having the red glow from the LCL, but the overall finish does give fake rock sadly. It’s not enough to ruin the statue but would’ve been nice to see a finish to make it more realistic.

The chains are a nice touch around the rock and those work well. They’re tightly anchored so there won’t be any slipping off. With the thick paint, not sure if they’re metal or plastic under there and as they’re taut I can’t tell their weight or heft.

I suspect they’re a standard metal chain under the paint.

Base top:

For the LCL, it has three splashes moulded into it for three of the feathers to sit. There’s no pegs or slots, so you can pose them as you like though the splashes are in size order and intend to correspond with each feather size.

Base front:

The base has these two red stripes to indicate the front. Not sure what they represent, if anything. Would’ve been nice to have one of the logos from the show or at least something referencing it. They did have the NERV logo on the box, so not like they were shying away from having it at all. Whilst the border on the base doesn’t fit any kind of Evangelion theming, it does compliment the statue.

Conclusion

I really like this statue – most of my unlicensed figures are NSFW, but this figure shows SFW figures can be worthwhile too. I love the way Kaworu is “there” in his pose. The wings are excellently detailed – I don’t think he has artwork that matches this wing style but in my opinion it suits him.

There’s a couple of areas that could be improved – my main choice would be to improve the rock and make it look less like a prop. As a Kaworu fan, this figure was worth picking up. I do own his GEM figure, but this one is entirely different vibes.
