Man-Bat

This figure was also bought at Forbidden Planet, alongside Catwoman and the redstone ore. Here are some shots of him up-close:

The articulation on this dude is rather disappointing, especially what they’ve done with the wings. Was hoping for a bit of flex and poseability, but there is none to be had :(. Still a cool-looking figure though.

Here he is taking on Koto’s dog alien:

image

I decided I wanted to display him dangling, so I had another bar put in on one of the Ikea cubby holes:

image

Awesome to have him dangling there, also takes up “wasted space” where I can’t put much else :).

Saber, Catwoman & Cube

Un-hiatusing my blog! First off, we have Saber and Catwoman:

image

Saber I bought from an MFC user, and collected on a trip down to London, Catwoman was purchased from Forbidden Planet…. also in London.

Here are some closeups of Saber:

image
image

A simple, yet attractive figure. Happy with this one, though she does like to drop her sword now and then.

Onto Catwoman:

image
image

Love the detailing and paint job on this figure… but… she has no stand holes! Which makes her more than a little annoying to pose, and you can’t really pose her dynamically, without her falling over. After she fell over a couple of times, I resorted to putting a glue dot under her foot, which has fixed the problem, at least for now. One other minor disappointment is you really want to put the side whip in the hole provided, otherwise she has a weird dent on her side. Would’ve been nice to have something else to go there, whilst she’s holding her whip.

And for the Bonus Item:

image

… redstone cube! This was sold as “Broken: light not working”, so I got it for £4. One strategic disassembly later, my husband saw it and kindly soldered the switch back to the board. It has a switch that dangles midair in the cube, which is formed of two cylinders. When the cube is hit, the switch is triggered. To make it sensitive enough, it has two long, thin legs, and this had snapped. One solder job later and it was fully working :).

It has three levels of brightness, which it cycles through when you hit it:

image

As it is aimed at kids, it also turns off after 5 minutes, which is minorly disappointing, but ah well, I won’t be flattening the battery any time soon. Gets pretty bright too, which is nice. Currently sits in random parts of the house, wherever I feel the need for more redstone 😛

Protector Of Earth

Whilst perusing the eBays, I found this dude going for a decent price, so picked him up.

image

He was already constructed in the box, so didn’t need to build him… though his arms fell off, so had to work out which way round those went :P.

And here’s a side view:

image

Did want to add him to “earth corner” with my other earth Bionicles, but there wasn’t enough room… so he’ll have to be alone somewhere else, until I go for a rearrange.

Dark Void

This figure I picked up just after the con at MT Games. Who also had a stall at the con.

image

Small figure, came unboxed, but was cheap. Never did play the game, but I always liked the look of the artwork as a kid, so I decided to pick this up.

Here’s a pic of the side and one of the back:

Bionicle Comic

Saw this as I wandered around the supermarket, and decided to grab it as I have a few of the Bionicle Lego sets:

image

That, and it came with two things, which makes it more worth the £5 asking price. As expected, the comic wasn’t much to look at. However, the figures were a bit more than I was expecting. I also appreciated that the sets were in resealable packets – means I didn’t have to destroy the packaging to get the stuff out (and I can put the mini-sets back in the bags if I choose to put them away at a later date).

First one lived up to my expectations:

image

Yep. It’s a pretty basic Skull Scorpion. Does the job of being a small thing.

Side view:

image

However, the second had an interesting feature. So here’s Ekimu’s hawk:

image

…. but what’s that he’s standing on?

image

Ekimu! One of the sets I do have ;). Originally his shield is to be placed on his arm, but with this hawk set, you get a clip to store his shield on his hip, and can then put the hawk on his arm :D. So this one exceeded expectations and does look rather nifty with Ekimu! Maybe if I had remembered his name, this would have come as less of a surprise, lol.

Here is Ekimu back on his shelf:

image

Whilst I have Ekimu, he’s a retired set, so I can see this magazine purchase potentially being awkward for younger fans without this particular set… though you could sit him on the arm of another Bionicle, or sit him on the part that goes into Ekimu’s hip, as pictured on the packet. Bionicle is going through a bit of a weird time right now, though still find it a bit on the odd side they release an addon to a retired set. I’m not complaining though!

WSM Comic Con – Grid Alien

This is the first of three loot posts for the Weston-Super-Mere comic con. For once, we had a bank holiday weekend that was hot :O. And the first hot weather in ages! Enjoyed wandering around the con, a decent selection of stalls, but when I returned later on in the day there was a “knot” of people by the entrance to the dealers – think they were queuing for something, but it made it confusing to if they were restricting access to the dealer’s hall or not. Turns out not. Fortunately I didn’t try to wait in the pile o’ people.

So now onto the loot! Here’s the alien, still in the baggie I bought it in:

image

RARRGGH! Here he is, escaped outta the bag:

image

And a side-on view showing more of the figure:

image

Happy with the figure, thankfully seems to be in good condition. Tempted to mount the base on a shallow container with an LED in it. Time will tell if I actually get around to doing that.

Frome Comic Con

Went to the mini-con in Frome. Bought two items – one from the con, one not.

From the con:

image

This is supposed to be used as a bookmark, but knowing me, I’d break it if I used it like that, so bought it to add as a dangler on my study shelves. I used a small needle to thread the thread through the holes, In this shot, you can see a bit of the thread that passes behind it – I did it like this, so that I can ensure that Sonic is straight when I hung him. If he’s not, I can adjust the thread to fix it.

A slightly further away shot (you can see a bit of the pole with my other dangling items on it):

image

Thinking of adding another “dangly stuff” rod to this shelf, like the one on the left. If I do this, I’ll more than likely move Sonic to dangle off that instead. That way I can slide him to wherever I want, without having to re-tape him.

And the second thing… novelty warning…

image

SOLAR NODDING TOILET MONKEY! Every house needs one of these!

Side view:

image

Unfortunately, if it gets too much sun, he’ll faceplant in his newspaper with a little “tick” noise. Bought this for £2 in Pink Planet.

And that’s it for “stuff”. I have two pictures I bought, will upload those to the blog when I’ve had them framed (probably not any time soon).

Tyrande Whisperwind

Just a little one 🙂

image

Tyrande, from WoW. Saw the series 2 figures for sale in GAME for £10, decided the eBay prices probably aren’t going to go down much, so decided to pick this one up. Will probably pick the Illidan one up if I see it for a good-ish price.

Happy with her, but these figures are a bit more than I really want to pay for them, lol. But man, I want ‘em.

Snitches get…

… STITCHES!

image

Picked this guy up in GAME (of all places), for a decent price. Looked like he’d been kicking around the store for some time. Wonder if he got dug outta the storeroom when they opened up another GAME in the same city…

However he came to be in that store, he’s now no longer terrorising Darkshire, and is now terrorising the residents of my desk. Not sure if the spitter alien is too pleased..

Black Widow

On Sunday I went to London… and bought one thing.

That thing was a Black Widow figure for £6. The Disney Store had looadds of them, with variable paint jobs. Some of them painted rather poorly, though I think I picked out a decent one. Think Disney overestimated the figure’s popularity!

Opening the figure up, I don’t think it’s just a case of overproduction – this figure definitely has its drawbacks, but for the price I paid, I can live with those.

Here she is out of the box:

image

Looks OK, though she has gun-holding hands, but no guns ><. Not sure what that’s about tbh.

The stand thing she comes with:

image

The Ant Man is a separate part. Pegs aren’t too well made for it, so it is easily knocked off.

Also… no pegs for the figure! Hence stand thing. If you do stand her on the stand, she seems wayy too large for it, hence why she’s on a disc stand above. Needed to use White Tack with it, as the Diamond Select peg hole is larger than those of NECA apparently. Mildly annoying.

Slightly duff close-up of Ant Man:

image

And Black Widow on my shelf:

image

All in all, an OK figure, but definitely not worth full price. Might have to dig around in the drawer of bits and see if I have some guns for her. Not sure what Diamond Select were thinking when they designed her & her accessories!

Global Collectables

On Saturday, I went and visited Global Collectables. Ended up buying three things – one figure I was planning to buy if they happened to have it, a complete wildcard and something I’ve half had my eye on.

First up, the figure I was planning on buying at some point – Spacesuit Harley.

image

A fun li’l figure. She also came with a piece of pizza… that smelled like pizza! Was wondering what the “food smell” was, and it’s this thing. Not sure what possessed the designer to give it a smell, but… there you go. Kinda wish it didn’t have a scent:

image

Next up, the figure I didn’t expect. Al Azif by BEAT. There are two versions of this figure – the “original” figure that has held its value and a “crystal” version that hasn’t. This is the original version:

image

Looking up the two, working out if I’d accidentally wasted some money, I found the difference – the “crystal” version is shiny, and has transparent hair… and looks awful in the photos I saw of it. Glad I didn’t end up with the crystal ver.

And the third thing – chestburster chopsticks. I have the facehugger ones, but the facehuggers do occasionally fight each other when you’re using them. Thinking these might be easier-to-use novelty chopsticks… and it’ll give me another pair to use if I have two chopstick meals within a couple of days of each other:

image

Closeup of the end:

image

And that was my haul for the Saturday :).

Pugatori

For the low, low price of pretty much just the postage (international postage, mind you) I bought this figure.

Paid for speedier delivery, which meant the box had to get snugglier with other parcels, but the contents were untouched (dent was the opposite end to the figure):

image

The figure, boxed:

image

When I took her out, there was this artwork obscured by her:

image

And Purgatori outta the box!

image

Only took a pic of her front as the wings aren’t sculpted on the back, which is a mild shame. She does look awesome from the front though, and the engraved style of the base means I can have her with both the knife and the spear :).

Urban Mine 2!

And now for the second set o’ stuff I ordered a little while ago.

Now that I have both the orders, I now know for sure that neither of the Spawn figures would have fit in my previous order. And Scourge is a fat bastard! Got two full boxes, one slightly smaller than the other. Again, this order is a combo of store items and urban mine stuff.

And now for the figures! Took some box shots to start with, of all but one. Will explain the reason why later in the post.

First up, Pinky:cos Asuka and Rei. Been on the fence about getting these, and thought “why not?” seeing as I was doing an order anyway.

image

Next up, CODE:BE by Wave. I have Lilith, which is basically the solid colour version of this one, but reaaallly wanted the clear one too. Box isn’t really much to look at from the outside. Bit too opaque!

image

And now for some Western stuff. Even with the postage, it was cheaper to get these from Japan than buy locally/get shipped from elsewhere. These Spawn figures were roughly £5 apiece, including postage.

First up, Spiked Spawn. One thing not pictured. See later in post.

image

Next up, Scourge:

image

That’s all the boxes, now onto the things! Rei and Asuka out of their box:

image

I do have some bootlegs of these Pinky:cos, planning to take those to work to decorate my desk, as they’re something to pretty the place but I’m not worried if the cleaner manages to damage them.

Next up, CODE:BE. Looking a lot better outta the packaging! But the stands for these figures are a pain.

image

Scourge – love this dude! So many bits to fiddle with, and I love the colour scheme. His groin looks a bit odd, but I swear I’m not gonna be looking there often.

image

I’mma lookin’ at chu:

image

And the thing not pictured about the Spawn above? His stink! I knew one of the figures smelled of cigarette smoke, and this was the bugger. Was, for some reason, more apparent once out of the box! Box hadn’t been opened either, and has now been resigned to the rubbish bin. Guess that’s why he ended up in the Urban Mine auction! (As well as being a Western figure)

So in for a bath he went:

image

After his soak, smelling much better (though the bandolier, being soft plastic, still has a bit of a stench to it):

image

Aand the one you’ve all been waiting for (or probably not…) – Revoltech Alien Queen. The box for this one does have a window under a flap, but on opening the flap I was greeted with… a jumbled mess. So I was more concerned about getting it out and inspecting its condition rather than photographing it.

Fortunately, the damage to this one was minor – part of its jaw hinge had snapped off, but was in the box, so I glued that back on. One of the shortest spines has a part snapped off, but that doesn’t show too much, especially if I don’t have that side facing forward. The missing part for that however, was not in the box. Being an Urban Mine item it was a gamble, but I feel the gamble paid off, especially as I paid a lot less than one in pristine condition. Was deeply hoping none of the pieces were missing, and I feel like I lucked out on that front.

And here’s some pics of the bugger:

image

The tail behind is of the Neca Alien Queen. This one is the middle-sized one of the three in this cabinet. The small one is the Konami Queen.

Side shot:

image

All in all, really happy with the stuff I got, especially for the prices I paid. Also used manual focus with the camera for this blog post. and am happier with how the pics came out than ones I’ve taken previously. Still got a fair amount to improve on with taking photos though :D.

Connor The Hunter

Went out at lunchtime to look for picture frames… came back with a figure XD. Went down to the other end o’ town, remembered the existence of a gaming & collectables shop… visited, and they just happened to have something I wanted at a reasonable price! And here he is: Connor the Hunter, from Assassin’s Creed III.

Swindon Comic Con

Here are some figures I bought at Swindon Comic Con. Apologies for the poor photo quality – husband snaffled the camera for holidays.

image

Mysterio, by Eaglemoss

image

Deadpool, by Eaglemoss

image

Doctor Octopus, by Eaglemoss

image

Elder Predator, by NECA.

And one thing I bought after the con at a comic book shop in Swindon…

image

TADA! ET in drag… by NECA, of all people. Couldn’t resist for £8
