Bad Taste Bears – Rustle & Henry

Bought this pair from a seller on eBay.

First up, Rustle:

image

I remember seeing this one when I was younger, and wanting it for no real reason. At the time I was living at home, and would have never got away with it. Now I’m older, the bears don’t seem to be as controversial to me as I thought they were at the time. They’re also well made imo,

Here is a side shot:

image

Definitely looks like he’s having a good rustle from this angle!

And the back:

image

Not much to say about this angle – has all the detail you’d expect.

Next up, Henry:

image

Not quite a Henry hoover, but I’m thinking the lawyers would have something to say if it was. Certainly seems happy with his vacuum cleaner, even if it doesn’t share his name. Love the face given to the vacuum.

Shot of the back:

image

Again, not much to say here. Fur texture’s nicely done.

Couldn’t resist another couple of these cheeky bears, and they also have a strange nostalgic element to me. I got them pretty cheap, and I’m happy with my purchases.

Harley Quinn – Gold Edition

Was wandering through an Asda, and came across this:

The price wasn’t bad, so I decided to buy it. Cue an age-long wait at the tills as it wasn’t even in the system yet, and they had to sort it out XD. On returning home, I did some research and it’s actually a Walmart exclusive, so I’m glad I decided to buy it, as I probably wouldn’t see it again, outside of eBay XD. For those that don’t know, Asda is owned by Wal-Mart, so it’s likely to be exclusive to Asda in the UK.

As for the figure… it’s gold and very shiny! Parts of it are metal, other bits I’m pretty sure are plastic. She articulates around her waist, but it’s not in a very pleasing way to me.

Here is her left side:

The shoulder joint is a bit gappy. She’s painted well though.

Right side:

This shoulder has less of a gap, but the seam on her head is a bit more obvious on this side.

The back:

Can’t miss that CE mark :P. Her hand is nicely sclupted, and the paint is nice and crisp here too. No hiding the join between the parts of her hat though.

Happy with the figure. For me, this figure meets expectations – the price for me was slightly on the high side, but it is nicely finished for the most part. So if you like your Harley in gold, you can get this one.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst figure set

I bought this for £5, along with the Star Wars figures featured in my last blog.

In the set you get these three figures:

From left to right these figures are: Icarus, Faith Connors and Kuma. As I’ve only played the original Mirror’s Edge, I’m only familiar with Faith. As this was a limited edition set, the GAME I visited only had one set on the shelves.

Before we get into the figures themselves, all the bottoms of the bases are the same and look like this:

The bases themselves are magnetic, and the feet of the characters stick anywhere on the top face of the base. I like this feature, as the base holds them well, and they’re not easy to knock over, plus no pegs to break.

Onto the figures! So let’s start with the main character, Faith:

Here she is, with her expression of grim determination. We also have matt and shiny paint finishes, which really helps the figures stand out. And all the paint seems to be in the right places, which is a massive achievement for figures of this size.

Here’s Faith’s right side:

… showing the edition number and her tattoo. The tattoo is nicely done, and I have 2426/3500. As expected, it’s in the higher end of the edition numbers, but maybe not as high as I’d expect for buying it during its selloff period.

Faith’s left side:

No tattoo this side, and I like the way they’ve posed her arm and hand so it looks like she is about to do something.

The back:

Nothing much to see here, but the details have all been finished off as expected. Crease continue to the back on her trousers, her bag strap is fully detailed. If I wanted to nitpick, I can point out the paint flaw on her armband, at the top.

Now for Icarus:

I do love the shininess of his clothing, and a credit to the game designers to make him “match” with Faith.

Side of Icarus:

He has looser clothing with more creases compared to Faith, which is a nice touch. I like the way his arm warmers are creased realistically around the wrist. Icarus’s other side is more of the same, so skipping that.

Back of Icarus:

Not a huge amount to see here. Might be nice if the back of his hoodie had some detailing, but I found one screenshot showing his back, and there’s nothing there. Does seem somewhat unnaturally flat – maybe some extra creasing could have left it looking less plain, like his trousers.

Finally, Kuma:

A cute little robot design, but the paintwork ends up looking sloppy, due to the white paint not finishing smoothly in a couple of places. If I had a choice of sets, I may have checked his paintjob in another set, but I’m not hugely bothered, as Faith was the one I was really after, with the other two being nice bonuses. He is a rather cute design though.

Kuma’s left side:

This one’s name is easy to remember, what with it being written on him ;).

Kuma’s right side:

Can see some of the less-smooth painting on this side, on his head, which is a bit of a shame, compared to the other figures.

Kuma’s back:

Some nice detailing here, but some lumpiness on his head, that I’m not sure is part of his character design.

In conclusion, this is a nicely painted set, especially for its size. Would be better if Kuma had some more attention paid to him, but I didn’t pay full price, so I’m not fussy. Originally the set was £18, which would be more than I would’ve wanted to pay, but probably justifiable for the quality of the figures. For £5, this set is a steal imo, if you’re into the Mirror’s Edge franchise.

Bad Taste Bears: Scarlet & Skully

I bought these in a figure shop, just prior to Christmas.

First up, Scarlet:

image

I remember seeing this one years ago, and wanting to buy it. But as I lived with my parents… wasn’t gonna happen. But now I have… her?

She comes fully equipped with her own handcuffs:

image

And edition number stamped on her backside:

image

I also got a keyring at the same time. His name is Skully:

image

Aww, isn’t he cute? 😛

A pic of the back:

image

So now I own 3 Bad Taste Bears. May own more in future, should I come across any cheap enough that I like. There are a few I could truly call “bad taste” but a lot of them seem rather tame to me these days.

Ahsoka Tano & Anakin Skywalker

Saw these in GAME for 99p, so I couldn’t resist. Not hugely into Star Wars, but these were nice looking figures for a cheap price.

First up, Ahsoka:

And in the writing of this article, I have learned that Twi’lek and Togrutas are two different speicies, and Ahsoka is the latter.

And Togrutas have three head-tails:

From this angle she looks particularly mean with her pair of lightsabers:

Love the use of colour in this character, and the bases for this set are nice and thematic. There is also little in the way of paint flaws on this one.

Now for Anakin:

Lookin’ grumpy with his lightsaber, but also a bit dinged up, and not intentionally so.

Side view:

Can see the marks on his leg more on this shot, but you can admire the pose chosen.

Back:

He has a weird dot on his head – looks like a hole in the outer layer of finish, and some scrapes on his coattails. Seems to be a reoccurring issue with the figures with large black areas – pretty sure the black colouring makes these marks more obvious, but it does seem to be something the darker characters are more prone to having.

Maybe if I looked more at the sets, I could have had an Anakin with less marks on him, but tbh, I only bought this set for Ahsoka, but it’s something to be mindful of if you’re going to pick up your own set.

For 99p, this set is cheap enough that even if you just like the character designs and want to display them, it’s worth picking up (at the time of writing, it seems readily available). The set also comes with a clear piece, but it’s not really a good display piece, so I didn’t photograph it.

Spawn – Shadowhawk

This is the figure I bought with the one in the previous blog.

Here he is in all his glory:

He certainly remembered to bring a weapon to the fight! Or six. Here’s a close-up of his upper weaponry:

Getting some Wolverine vibes from his face.

Here’s a close-up of the grappling hook:

This weapon actually fires, but it’s more like a spear as it doesn’t have a thread.

Close-up of the gun-knife:

It’s got all the attachments! Not entirely sure if it makes the gun more deadly. You could probably clobber multiple people at once with it though, should he run out of ammo…. Though he does have that pointy knife in the grapple hand.

Here’s his back, showing where the cables are attached at his back:

The cables, unlike most other figures, came attached. Was a bit interesting getting him out of the box, but at least they won’t have the distinct disadvantage of falling out. Does mean you can’t display him without his weapons, but I’m not bothered about that.

Side shot of the wiring:

This was originally the shot for the gun, but it came out clearer in the other pic. So you can admire his clawed hand on this side, which also has the notch for the grappling gun.

So if you like your action figures armed to the teeth, this one is for you! Not sure I would’ve picked him up if it weren’t for the freebies the comic shop guy threw in, but getting him out of the box, he’s grown on me. Especially in the first photo in this blog, he does cut an imposing stance.

She-Spawn

Bought this from a comic book shop in Bath, along with another Spawn figure (coming soon!).

She had a few parts to assemble – the “gun”, shoulder armour and leg armour, plus the sword she has in her right hand. Without the accoutrements, she’s quite a slender figure with them… well, she’s quite bulky now. But not quite Spawn bulky.

Here’s a closer shot of her upper half & shoulder-mount… thing:

Mmm, skull boobs :P. The launcher on her shoulder can figure the spear in he beast’s mouth.

Other side of the launcher:

Is quite a big thing, with an articulated ‘tail’.

The back of She-Spawn

Her hair is rather like an extended soft paintbrush, but it is a nice touch I like that some of the Spawn figures have. Enough details on the back for her to feel complete as a figure.

Despite the amount of attachments, she was surprisingly easy to balance, though there is the option not to equip everything. The shoulder cannon does leave an odd hole, but the other two parts are simply clipped on. Her one annoying part is the sword – it’s not very well shaped to her hand, so she doesn’t grip it well. It just about wedges in there, but I can see myself white-tacking this in future (or boxing it). My favourite details are her asymmetric belts and the skulls ;).

Odds n’ Sods: Part 2

Three more pieces of random.

Picard and Borg Queen Minimates

These figures I got from a comic book shop in Bath.

Bought them because… Borg Queen. They’re not too bad out of the packaging, Picard looks nicer out of the packaging than I thought, with the accessories.

Here’s a side shot, showing the phaser “clipped” to his belt:

Personally I would have preferred a back clip or something for the rifle, so he could hold the phaser and carry the rifle, as I feel Picard is more a phaser kinda guy. I should prolly re-angle that phaser though, unless I choose to switch it out with the rifle anyway… but it does leave what looks like sprue on his waist.

Backs of the figures:

The Borg Queen’s head wires came out quite well, but the copyright info kinda spoils the look, especially a some is over the printed design too…

I wouldn’t have bought these at full price, owing to them being stylised, but I don’t mind them being in my collection.

Ghost Rider

This guy I bought from TK Maxx. Found him at the tills – so the annoying scrabble through the till queue merchandise was fruitful that day. It’s annoying because there can be good things hidden there, but you’ve gotta move out of the way for people ready to pay for stuff ><

Cute li’l dude :P. Hands and head are on the big side of the body, as these will work with the full-sized figures. Head looks OK, but the hands do look a bit on the odd side.

Here he is from the back:

Yeah, not really his best angle. His fire-hair looks neat though.

He also comes with an optional green dragon accessory:

Not familiar with this being a “thing” and I’m not entirely keen on it. It’s an OK part on its own, but I don’t think it goes with Ghost Rider. Will probably live in the box of spare parts, just in case I get a Mash ‘Em it works with.

Side shot, if you want to see more of it:

Darth Maul

Kinda surprised I didn’t have this dude already, but he probably didn’t get the chance to bin as hard as some of the other Disney Infinity. Found this in the same TK Maxx visit as Ghost Rider.

For some reason, both of the ones they had had small scuffings on the black parts. Not sure why, but it’s not too visible irl. His head paint has been done well though, and is very striking.

Shot showing his saber:

Looking nice n’ lethal.

A shot showing the back:

Again, some minor scuffing, but he looks good from this angle too.

And just for completeness, here’s his head spikes:

Love this little Maul, despite the small flaws. A welcome addition to my collection.

Odds n’ Sods: Part 1

CThis blog will be dedicated to three of six different smaller figures I’ve bought lately, that don’t really justify their own blog entry.

Bilbo Baggins

This dude came from Poundworld, and I don’t think I’d pay more than a pound for him, but had to get the figure because of silliness. So why silly? See for yourself:

image

It’s the ring-version of Bilbo. There is some decent moulding in there… if you can see it! And no paintwork to complain about…

The two straps are for a bag and some water bottles. These are separate parts to the figure, so I’ve put them on best I could.

Here’s his back:

image

He does have articulation, as can be seen, but not sure why they bothered making this figure. Definitely the peg-warmer of the set, though some of the figures didn’t fare much better, but I think most only got as far as the cheapy shops instead of pound store territory.

Captain Sparklez

Bought this mostly because of the slime. Was also £1.

image

He does come with a shield, but I didn’t add it to these pictures, as it’s overly large and looks terrible. The slime and slime sword are the best parts of this set for me, as I don’t follow any of the Minecraft YouTubers, though I know of them. The legs on this figure have surprisingly decent articulation – the knees and hips both move, so he’s easy to stand up.

Backs of both figures don’t have anything to write home about:

image

And let’s have a close-up of the slime:

image

D’awwww.

Invader Zim

This was one of the overly-expensive blind bags, but I bought it anyway. Out of the things available in the bag, this was one of my top picks, so that’s one good thing 😀

image

Lookin’ very Zim, but the body paint is rather sloppy. I think it would have been nicer if they included a mouth. Wasn’t like his was too small for one…

Here’s a shot of the side:

image

Yeah, the join isn’t particularly hidden in his overly large, bobblehead. Might be possible to do something about it, but not checked. Here you can see how the stand goes around his body and pokes into his back. Not really a fan of the stand – I’d prefer it if he stood on the plastic plate – he looks a little odd floating there.

Onto the back:

image

Sloppy paint in evidence here too. The backpack is nice, but wondering if they missed a trick making it look like the stand was something deployed from the backpack, instead of being awkwardly halfway in the bottom of it.

Closeup of the stand:

image

Having the logo on there is nice, but damn, this thing’s made from cheap plastic. Horrible unevenness plagues the plastic, and the edges aren’t nicely finished. You can clip it to others in the series, but I don’t see myself doing that unless these turn up in Poundland. Especially as 5 out of the 8 figures are… Gir. I don’t mind SOME Gir, but I think replacing one of the weaker Gir designs with human-disguise Zim would’ve been a good way to go. Wouldn’t recommend these unless you really want something Invader Zim. In the UK, these are currently overpriced imo.

Kaki, Troll and…. food?!

So here’s some random figures I had to get… The troll figure I got some time ago, but didn’t judge it blog-worthy on its own, but now I have Kaki, I can blog about the pair.

So here’s Trollface:

image

Yep, that’s deffo a trollface. And here’s Kaki:

image

And yep, that’s definitely a poo. Waited for these figures to bin, which they indeed did. These are the two I wanted from the collection, the others don’t really interest me, even for bargain basement prices. They’re seriously not worth their original retail value, but at the price I paid, they’re fine for a novelty.

Now onto food…

image

A happy, hungry sprout! Just in time for Christmas!

image

I bought him from a charity shop, and we were debating if he was a cabbage or a sprout. The final conclusion at the shop was sprout, but I still think it could be either. See what you think after seeing his back:

image

Bestest. Figure. Ever. And I bet you thought that’d go to Kaki :P.

More Domez!

So… managed to end up at Toys R Us again, and bought 3 more Domez. This time there was the added bonus of them being cheaper!

I managed not to get any dupes:

First up, Catwoman:

I initially opened these up in the dark, so didn’t see the scratch on her head :(. This is the favourite of the 3 I opened, but I may have to do something about that mark… darnit.

Batman:

It’s… Batman. Looks OK from this angle, but the mouth makes him look a bit derpy.

Lastly, but definitely least, Superman:

Yeah… what the heck is going on with that face?! I’m not a fan of Superman at the best of times, and this one… well. Face is super-derp and the head looks more out of proportion than the others.

Ah, that’s better. This angle actually looks OK! Back of his head doesn’t say “Superman” to me, but hey, I don’t have to look at that face any more.

Ignoring the scratch on Catwoman’s head, I’ve got 2 that I like, one I’m mediocre about and one that might get hidden in a drawer. Not a bad pull.

Figure Spotlight – Big Daddy

This was one of my first figures. I went to GAME to buy the original Bioshock, and the collector’s edition was only £5 more, so I went for it, because, hey Big Daddy figure:

image

The other parts of the collector’s edition are scattered to various corners of my house, and this is the only thing that is out and displayed.

Here’s the side with his hand, where you can see some of the meh-ness of the painting:

image

And here’s his drill hand:

image

Here you can see some of the blood effect, which is spread over various places on the figure.

And finally, the tanks:

image

Hm. Don’t think the paint effect they were going for really worked here.

Not sure what the collector’s edition originally went for, but even if I was into collector’s editions at that point in time, I don’t think the figure really justifies a large increase in cost. Can’t argue with £5, you get a decently heavy figure that looks like something from the game, but the paint job isn’t the best. I think they could have dialled down on the bloodstains – I think it would be more effective to have it on the drill and maybe one other place. With it being in various spots, it kind of makes it look even less realistic to me – I’m not a massive fan of “blood” spatter on figures, as it rarely comes out well.

All in all, not a bad start to my collecting habit.

Figure Spotlight – Headless Horseman & Sinister Squashling

Say hello to WoW’s Headless Horseman:

image

This figure I bought in 2012, and he’s still as awesome as the day I got him. He comes with a “base” featuring his horse bursting from the ground:

image

It has one peg for his right foot, so the base only semi-stabilises him, This is probably the weakest part of the figure – he can be a bit prone to falling on his backside whilst you’re posing him, but once posed, he does tend to stay. His armour is on point though.

Here is a couple of closeups of the horse:

image
image
image

The texture’s done nicely on this figure, and the plastic surface feels rougher than your average figure, which fits in with the theme of this figure nicely.

His cape has a great sense of movement, but also a pain to dust because of this:

image

His head is also detachable:

image

Which is kind of essential for a headless horseman!

If that amount of awesome wasn’t enough, he also came with a sinister squashling, which was a mob that attacked during the encounter, and you could get it as a pet:

image

Side shot showing the stem:

image

I remember wanting to get this figure in no small part thanks to the squashling – it was my fave non-combat pet at the time, and I just have to have a li’l one I could sit on my desk.

Several years on, this is definitely one of my better Western figures, and a testament to the quality of Blizzard’s figures. Would recommend it to anyone who likes its look, as long as you can get it for a non-super-scalp-y price. I got a ridiculously good deal on this figure, looking back.

Len Kagamine & Sam Flynn

Two figures that don’t really have anything to do with each other… but I opened both on the day of writing.

First up, Sam Flynn. Decided to pick him up at last, was one of the Disney Infinity figures I was pondering getting:

image

Here’s a closeup on his disc-holding hand. The scupltwork from this angle does look good:

image

And from the other side. His leg does look like it’s got an extra joint from this angle!

image

Overall, a good figure, especially for the price I paid. I wouldn’t want to pay a lot for them, so the clearance discounts on these figures has been nice.

Next up, Len Kagamine. I saw this figure on a Black Friday deal, but found it straight-up cheaper on Amazon UK. As I have a Prime trial right now, I got him the very next day after ordering. Here he is, out of the box:

image

D’awww. small and cute! He came in 3 pieces, plus the base. Not entirely sure why they didn’t package him assembled, lol. He even came with an instruction sheet, not that one is really needed!

Here is a shot of his right-hand side:

image

And one of his left:

image

And the obligatory back shot:

image

The figure is very nicely painted, and is the quality of a miniature scale. However he is tiny. I was expecting him to be small – after all, he was advertised as 1/12, but somehow getting him out of the box, he was still smaller than I thought:

image

Doesn’t exactly tower over the Infinity figure, but at least he has the quality of a larger scale put into the wash. I’d say he’s worth the RRP, but not much more. Largely, his price seems to have gone up in the aftermarket, but for his retail price, he’s a fine-if-small figure.

Figure Spotlight – [BOOTLEG] Amberlash

OK, pre-warning: if you don’t like bootlegs, look away now. Unfortunately at the time I got this, the “real thing” wasn’t really available, and even if you could find one it’d would’ve been waayyy beyond my budget. So I went for the bootleg, as I really had to have a succubus in my collection.

At the time, I was fairly impressed with it, barring the painting on the left-hand-side of her panties. Having a closer look today, yeah, there’s definitely a sucky paint job going on:

The official one has gold paint, this one has… bronze paint. It’s not entirely horrible, but does lack the contrast of the original. You can also see her torso doesn’t sit right – tempted to glue that up properly, and it’ll probably help a lot with her balance… oh yeah, she likes to fall over.

Wasn’t sure if the gap was there originally, but looking at eBay, where there’s photos of the bootleg, this seems to be a regular feature of the bootleg.

Here’s a more front-on shot showing the escaping torso:

Let’s move to the side:

Annd stare at the diseased transition from body to wing. The painting of this part is horrible on both sides, and would definitely be one of the bits I’d look at repainting, if I do. I have one plastic model figure that I plan to repaint, and if this goes well, I may look at repainting this one to some extent. As well as sortin’ that torso.

Finally, her back:

Hm, this pic shows the least of the paint flaws! Could almost be the real thing from this angle…

For a bootleg, it still isn’t a bad effort. The sculpt has been preserved, and there doesn’t seem to be much noticeable degradation of the mould. The paint job is very noticeably sloppy in places, so if I decide to make a foray into garage kits, this would be definitely a figure I’d look at touching up/repainting.

Figure Spotlight – Kabuki

And more Diamond Select! Though, again, I got this one cheap. I got interested in Kabuki, after getting a figure of Scarab, because she looked cool. I then found this figure on Amazon, put it on my wishlist, and watched the price slowly drop. Once it was at a point where I couldn’t not buy it, I bought it. So here she is:

image

Her main body looks a little overly plain in real life. Maybe could have done with something to break up the block colour, and make her appear more detailed. Her weapon and pose are nice though.

The base also really adds to the figure. Here’s a closeup:

image

And one of the lantern:

image

It’s nice to have a base that adds to the figure – probably one of the better things with Diamond Select – they do try to make a base that goes with the character, though some of them are horrible misses. This one (and the Sin City ones) go nicely with their figures. Just a shame the figures could do with a little work. This one being a statue does work for it – no awkward joints to be seen here.

The back of this figure also works:

image

Almost a shame the tattoo isn’t visible from the front of the figure, but that’s how the character is in the comics, so can’t fault Diamond Select for that. It’s a nice rendition though, but for some reason mine seems to have a mark on her shoulder.

If displayed at a distance, this figure does look bold and striking. Up close, you can see the paint errors and from the front she looks kinda plain. I’d recommend getting this one at a discount.

Figure Spotlight – Sin City figures

To keep the content goin’ on this blog, I’ve decided to make some entries about figures I’ve obtained prior to starting this blog. These blogs will start with the title “Figure Spotlight” and largely feature 1-3 figures.

Today’s post will be about two Sin City figures I bought at MCM one year. These figures were made by Diamond Select.

First up, Nancy.

image

This was the one of the two I really wanted, but the deal was 2 figures for a price, so I go this one and Hartigan. You may notice that the guns are still rubber-banded in place – didn’t take the rubber bands off, as I don’t think she’ll have a particularly great grip on the guns if I do. In future, I may need to take the bands off if they begin to perish. Paint job is mostly OK, but you can see some WTF going on in the crotch area. Posing this figure isn’t a whole lotta fun, and both of these have the silly thigh swivel. Stupid cut legs…

Here she is from the side:

image

Mostly looking OK. Hiding the gravity-defying tassels in this photo :P.

Aaand the back:

image

Yep, Diamond Select plain give up here. These figures are definitely designed to be put up against a wall.

Now onto Hartigan:

image

Again, left his weapons rubber banded, so I don’t have to deal with them being dropped. I also find his thigh cut more annoying to look at than Nancy’s as it is more visible with the less busy pants. Not shown: errant blob of white paint behind his tie.

Here he is from the side:

image

And the back:

image

His back is nicely done, but you’re not gonna wanna look at it when he’s on the stand. Kind of a shame really.

I like the way the figures have been done in black and white to match the film, and the sculpting for the most part is OK. Nancy’s tassels are a mess though. The issues are fairly par-for-the-course for Diamond Select figures, which is why I only tend to buy them on deep discount. These two were no exception, happy for the price I paid, but I wouldn’t pay regular price for them.

Lucidique 12″

OK, so I haven’t totally banned myself from buying stuff… Found this in a store for a good price, though it is damaged. Think I paid a fair price, given the damage – she still looks cool though:

The weapon in her right hand has had the end snapped off, there’s supposed to be one more hook she holds in that hand instead, and a couple of her horns have the ends missing, though this isn’t particularly visible from the front.

Here’s a close-up of her face:

Yeah, she’s lookin’ at you :).

Here she is next to the smaller Lucidique I already owned:

About twice as tall – note the hook in the right hand of the smaller figure – that’s the one missing from the larger one. I do have the weapons for the smaller one, but they’re currently in storage.

When I was buying this figure, I asked the store-owner “can I have a closer look at Lucidique?” (as she was high on a shelf). He didn’t know who she was XD. Should’ve have asked if I could take a closer look at the figure that looks like it jumped out of Clive Barkers’ imagination :P. Instead, I asked if I could have a look at the figure next to the Torchwood one…

She currently stands next to the 12″ Pinhead figure, and they look great together 😀

Ashens!

When Stuart Ashen came to Bristol… I finally had something for him to sign!

And being me, it had to be figure-related. I actually thought about this prior to another time of meeting him, but forgot to bring it with me – d’oh!

This time I did not forget:

image

Figure to the left is the “legit” version, and the signed one is a bootleg, which I originally bought as an experiment to whether I liked swimwear figures or not. Was on the fence about buying one, so decided to go the “cheap” route to see if it’d end up in the bin within a couple of weeks, with little money lost, or I’d buy the legit version if it was still displayed.

“Blimey” was Ashen’s reaction to seeing it:

image

It may have been one of the odder things he’s been given to sign. So now this bootleg won’t be hitting the bin, lol. Had a short chat with Stuart, and had Barry sign a note for my husband – wasn’t expecting Barry to be there, but knowing my husband is a fan, I brought him a li’l love note home ;).

Here’s Ashens being confused by swimsuit Saber:

I’ll let the reader decide what Mentski’s (guy on the left) is doing. Barry is wisely staying out of it.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes

After I went to the Horror Con in Birmingham, we went for a quick jaunt through Gloucester to kill some time, whereupon I picked up this figure:

And her back:

A post to Reddit later, plus some research, I found out this figure was from a series of blind bags.

On returning home, I found I could buy a box of ‘em for a tenner. So the logical thing? Buy an entire box!

The box also shows what you can get:

Upon opening the first, I found out why these were being flogged off cheap – these are in the UK, and the cards that come with them are in Spanish and Portuguese. I can sorta read Spanish, so I can get the gist of what each character is supposed to be, and Google Translate the rest :P.

The instruction manual comes with two games you can play with these figures – the first is a simple vs game, where you basically battle cards. The second involves knocking characters over with the provided marbles (you get one marble with each figure). Especially because of the marble game, some of these figures are surprisingly hard to stand up,

So what did I get from the bags? Some dupes for sure! Let’s run through the teams, in the order on the above box.

First up is the Academy, who live in the City of Wisdom:

Got 4/6 of these.

The Necropolis, who live in the City of the Undead:

5/6.. one of two near-complete teams. The axe-wielding dudes you have to warm their hands up to get the axes in there.

Haven, from the City of Griffins and Men:

4/6. Interesting name they have for their city, lol.

Inferno, from the City of Demons:

2/6. Was reallllyy hoping for more of these guys! Though you know what I was saying about getting stuff to stand up? These are, by far, the worst offenders – they’re all leaning against the board in this shot ‘cos the buggers just wouldn’t stay put.

Finally, Silvan, from the City of the Elves:

5/6. Got a lot of these dudes too, but less dupes than the Necropolis set.

Do wish there were less dupes per box, but they’re obviously randomly packed. On the fence about getting more – some part of me would like a more complete set, especially because some of them that I’m missing do look cool, but on the other hand, I’m likely just to be drowning in more dupes!

Uh, anyone wanna trade some dupes?
