Tandem Twin – MOMO

This figure I was thinking on and off about buying, but pulled the trigger as I was buying the other items from the seller. She’s an original character, so isn’t in any anime or the like. So here she is:

image

She’s cute-looking and quite tall. She’s listed on MFC at 29cm tall, and I’d agree with that. I like her cute halter top, and her pose feels natural. The body paint is not the best imo, but I think it may have partly suffered with time. The body texture appearance is on the plasticy, unreal side though. Most of the painting is well done though.

Here’s a side shot, showing more of her face:

image

Yeah, I’m lookin’ at you. From the front-angle she’s giving a smile, this angle looks like she’s aiming to be sassy, lol. I like the way they’ve put wrinkles in her clothes, to give them a more natural appearance. With her arm, you can “feel” the way she twisted into her pose.

A closeup of her face:

image

Yep, definitely smiling. Nice detailing on the eyes, and the way the top hangs.

Here is her back:

image

Her tail has plenty of shading on, and the creases are also present on the back. Her hair colouring has also been done strikingly from the back – this is definitely a figure that’s been designed to be looked at from both the front and the back – a feature I appreciate, even if I don’t use it all that often!

I like this figure, but feel the skin paint lets it down a bit. I don’t have another figure to compare it to, but feel like the shades may have separated over time, however, this isn’t the only issue with skin painting imo.

The cast-off part is quite a large portion of the figure, which is nice, as it means the seams fall along natural seam lines:

image

Some OK-looking nipples, and a top that goes underneath her boobs. At first, I thought this was the first top pushed down, but it’s a different top entirely on closer inspection. She also has a different neck decoration. The paint is less orangey on this piece, which is why I suspect the other part may have deteriorated to some extent, but it’s still sort-of shiny and not as skin-like as other figures I own.

The back of the cast-off part:

image

Fairly similar to the other one, but the neck is different, owing to the other neckpiece, and the back of the top is different too.

Here’s what the cast-off piece looks like when she’s assembled:

image

And a closeup of her front:

image

The nipples I find a bit too stark, but I think it’s still a decent option. It did take me awhile to decide which piece to display her with for the time being – have settled on the non-castoff, but I may switch her in future.

Pajama Time Rei & Asuka

This is the last part of the MFC loot. And it had to be Evangelion :P.

Here they are both together:

image

These figures can be stood up as shown – there’s a foldout stand on the back – or hung up like pictures. Or laid down flat, if that’s how you roll. Currently considering mounting these on a wall somewhere.

First up, a closer look at Rei:

image

I love the weird, transparent clothing. One nice feature of it is that it does let you see more of the figure. Can’t imagine translucent nightwear irl would be made of anything comfortable enough to sleep in… I also like the wing pattern behind these figures – gives you the feeling that they’re dreaming, as well as being something related to Evangelion. Just a shame the frames are so plasticky.

Here’s a closeup on Rei:

image

Rei’s well-posed, but the paint definitely lack detail, largely owing to these being prize figures. For a prize figure, I’d be happy with this prize though.

Now onto Asuka:

image

Less transparency going on here, but with Asuka’s hair, there’s more detail to look at. I’d prefer her nightwear to match her flavour of red than pink, but that’s a minor gripe. Like with Rei, she has wings, but hers are less noticeable at first.

Closeup on Asuka:

image

And a closeup on her face:

image

Yep, she seems happy and comfortable.

I feel these two an interesting add to my collection. The frames are glow-in-the-dark, hence the kinda cheap look. Did look into whether they’re easily removable if I decided to change them, but the answer was no. Personally I’d prefer the bed “window” to be a bit clearer, to make the wings stand out more – in Asuka’s case, I think the artwork went a little too dark, which doesn’t help them stand out.

If you’re short on shelves, these are a pair designed for your wall :).

Saber Swimsuit

Today’s figure is Saber by Wave. No figure collection is complete without a few different Sabers, after all.

This one was packaged with her standing on the base – no assembly required. She has a nice-looking belly, and the ribbons give her a good “finish” of a figure that could’ve been quite plain.

Here’s a more side-on view, showing one of the bows:

Nicely sculped and painted. I feel as if she could risk being a bit happier though!

Here’s a side shot showing off her hair:

And one from the back to show the bow more clearly:

Nicely coordinated with her side bows :). Unusually for a Wave figure, she actually comes with a second hair choice:

Side view:

I like this hairpiece, but I prefer the more “Saber” one. I feel it fits better, and I like the coordinating bows.

The paint shading is very nice in this figure, and the blue bows really pulls her together as a figure. Don’t have any major complaints with her, she could be a bit more smiley, but that’s kinda Saber’s thing.

Kazakiri Hyouka

I don’t know much about this character, but I was captivated by her looks and pose. There isn’t anything ‘critical’ shown, but I think she is more on the NSFW side in pose and coverage imo. So let’s start will a less direct shot of her:

In some ways, her face reminds me of my own, but my coworkers may disagree (um, do you? :P)

, especially as I haven’t worn glasses in many years . I definitely don’t have that sidetail though!

A more front-on shot, showing her pose and belly more:

I love the colours of her clothes – the back and canary yellow work well together.

Here’s her back:

Hair is pretty simple, but does the job.

I like this figure. It’s fairly simple in its way, but there’s something that captivates me. Part of it is her expression and pose, though.

Lily – Vocaloid

This figure I almost requested my husband to buy as one of my Christmas presents… until I found something else I wanted XD. Was attracted to her by the yellow and blue colour scheme.

Mmm, shiny. And what a look she gives, lol.

A closeup of the face:

Again, the hair is a bit meh with the paint, makes her look a bit sun-faded imo, but the sculpt is better. Here’s a back shot, showing the hair sculpt:

Not much goin’ on on top, but plenty of movement out back. You can also see the stand that holds her leg – was dubious about it at first, but it does make her much solid standing up, so it’s staying.

Here is her left side:

Lots of wiry details, and a clear shot of the stand.

And t’other side:

Both her hands are posed well, adding to her pose. I like the way the clothes are on her body, especially with the top being a separate piece.

My favourite things about this figure are the blue, her belly and her collar. Not sure how I feel about her facial expression, but it does make her stand out.

Sheryl Nome

Next up, Sheryl Nome. I saw this figure on Mandarake, and did think about adding her to one of my recent purchases, but decided to go for something else instead. Glad I waited, as I was able to add her to my MFC bonanza.

For a prize figure, her body is nicely painted, but her hair quality definitely says “prize figure” to me. She took a little bit of heating to slot her waist into her legs. Dunno why, but her outfit appeals to me.

Here she is from the back:

Again, the hair kinda lets it down a bit. The body has some nice touches – the metal detailing on her tube top/bra, creases in her knickers, sculpting of her back – but the hair colour just doesn’t seem that well blended.

Here’s a closeup of her back & glasses:

Attention to detail was put into her hand pose.

Here’s her right side:

And the left:

Some nice attention to detail in the sculpt, though you can see a little bit of a gap where she joins in the above pic. Might be able to fix it with a bit more of a shove.

I don’t think this will be a fave fig, but she is a welcome addition to my collection :). Love the body, shame about the hair imo.

Mashougun Astaroth

So… this is the first of 8 figures I bought from a seller on MFC. They were doing a giveaway of prize figures (just pay postage), but they had a couple of things for sale that I wanted. So I helped empty their closet…. and will be filling mine! (Watch this space…).

This figure is one I’ve wanted since its original release. I remember seeing it for preorder, but not really wanting to shell out so much for a figure. Ah, how things have changed…

So here she is:

Mmm, shiny blue demon! The painting is REALLY nice in this figure, and I adore the posing. And those shiny wings:

Didn’t know that the wings would be shiny, and it adds to the figure. They’re also ribbed on the back:

Here’s a closeup of her face:

The expression matches her pose. This pic also shows off her wing claws 🙂

Here’s another closeup of her upper half, showing her left arm and the tail wrapped over it:

And finally a shot of her back:

Love this figure, when I finally have somewhere to display these figures, she’s going to have a prime location to stand in.

Urban Mine – Aliens Edition

So there was one reason, and one reason only, I bid on this auction:

image

I’m a sucker for Alien stuff, and I have most of the collection. My thought process was that I would probably win the auction at a price, that even if the one in the box was one I had, I’d be able to get my money back at the very least.

But then this happened:

image

And then this happened…

image

There were two ships shoved in the box, both of which I didn’t have, and one is the rare! Looking at them, they were more impressive than I thought they’d be, so I’m definitely keeping them, especially for the bargain price I paid.

So, back to the drop ship. I was just adding it to my collection on MFC, when I noticed in the promo shots I could do this:

image

Man, that’s nifty. The others don’t articulate, so this was unexpected.

Here’s a more top-down shot:

image

Here’s a shot of the top of the Sulaco. It’s very thin, so it doesn’t photograph well from anywhere other than the side (I did try):

image

So super-happy I decided to bid on that lot! Now for the other stuff in the box.

First, up, a blind box figure, which was already opened:

image

Her name is Sakurakouji Hotaru, and I can’t tell you anything about her. She’s, um, wearing a blue skirt? The tiny stick at the bottom you can attach another rod to, and have a clip stand around her. Not planning on bothering, also she was quite weighty, so she might be made out of sterner stuff, which would help her not lean over time. Very nicely painted though, if simple. I do kinda like her, so thinking of keeping her for now.

Next item was some random box item:

image

Hm, some cool-looking stuff on the front. This box was opened already. And what did I get?

image

Mmm, ok. Paint job’s nice, but I don’t think I have much call for a tiny dude and his bike.

Here’s the other items in the set:

image

A few things I could’ve gone for – certainly wouldn’t have minded the Utraman, but alas, this was the Urban Mine, so the blind boxes are often the crap you don’t want :P.

Now for some Super Sentai sweets:

image

These are going to a friend who loves Super Sentai, so not opened them. The chocolate is wayyyy out of date – the expiry is September 2007, so uh, only 10 years out of date. I have recommended the friend NOT eat the chocolate, though I don’t think he’ll be inclined to anyway. If I’m around when he opens these, I’ll photograph the toys.

And finally, a Pez strap made to look like a Pez dispenser:

image

Hm, yep. Might see if someone wants to buy this. This is apparently “Boy” of the Pez family. Never even knew there was a Pez family, lol.

And that’s the end of the Urban Mine loot. Super-happy with getting two items I really wanted, and the expected amount of trash, and I’ll be able to give a friend a Chrismas present… so a good loot it was.

Lawson Rei & Asuka C-Style

This was the other item I used to round out my Urban Mine purchase, coming up in the next blog post. This figure was sold unopened, and indeed it was. So here it is, out of the box:

D’aww, cute! Did take a little bit of putting together, but it was worth it. If you get this, I’d strongly recommend a hairdryer for the assembly – the parts that slot together are tight, and the blue support in Asuka’s foot may be mildly misshapen – on mine it wasn’t going to go in there when cold, but a bit of thermal persuasion and it slotted in there nice and snugly.

Here’s the back of the figures:

Looking OK from this angle, but it is mostly support, and Rei’s hair looks super-boring.

Closeup of the characters:

There feels to be quite a thick layer of paint on them, and the colours are nice and bold. They don’t hold up to a close inspection – there is a little paint bleeding, and my Rei has a little bit of blobby paint on her belly, but from a distance, they’re quite striking.

The price for these in the aftermarket is about what you’d expect to pay for two small figures, so if you like them, I’d say go for it, unless you’re overpaying by using a 3rd party type reseller.

Devilman Keychain

This keychain was added to a Mandarake order, to round out up to just under the amount where I’d be liable for VAT (ah, the fun of being a European).

So here he is, in his silver glory:

Anything that isn’t the head is sculpted OK, but the head doesn’t show up very well from the front. They went a bit too textured on the face, which makes it really indistinct from certain angles. He’s rubbery, as he’s intended to be a keychain… but he’s a bit big for that! Wingspan from tip-to-tip is 12cm, and he’s 10cm tall, from his feet to the top of his wings.

Also…

This is the keychain piece. You’re supposed to screw this into him… somewhere. There’s no hole to do it – it’s supposed to be self-tapping, so I’m going to file this away somewhere, and am thinking of using thread to dangle him from somewhere.

And just for completeness, here’s the back:

Am happy with him, he’s bigger than I thought he’d be – I was expecting like a small, metal keychain, but he’s a bit larger and PVC, so should be easier to display. If he was smaller and metal, I’d probably consider using him as a keychain though.

Devilman Mico Acid Purple ver.

So this is a character from Devilman. One day I’ll watch the shows and read the manga so I know all about these characters… what I do know is this one is symbiotic with a demon, which is the purple part, and it is called Tollg.

So here she is, straight out of the box:

image

Pretty decent for this kind of figure, lacking if you’re not into this older style of action figure. She does have a hat that I dismissed at first, but after putting it on, she does look pretty nifty with it:

image

There will be no back shots at this stage… as she has a bare butt.

She also comes with an “experimental chamber” you can put her in:

image

Which I think looks pretty cool :D. Then again, I’m a weirdo. I also love the blue colour. And, hey, the experiments aren’t bad too!

Here’s a closeup of the details on top:

image

And here’s the back:

image

Not much to see, barring the battery compartment. I do have the cover – it was elsewhere when I was taking photos. Two AA batteries just fit in there. Took a fair bit of effort to get them in properly, so that the flap will shut – the feature can work if the battery is slightly out, but the cover wouldn’t fit back on like that. Needed to use a doodad to push battery next to the spring as far back as it would go to squeeze the batteries in there. Not sure how getting them out will go…

Now why are there no pics of the light feature? One, it’s not too impressive to look at – it’s two LEDs, one at the top, one at the bottom. Though the main reason I didn’t try to photograph it, is the LEDs are only on when you hold down the button at the front. Part of me is tempted to mod it so there’s a sliding switch at the back, but I’d have to take it apart to see the feasibility. Also there’s the temptation to wait – if I have a place near a power source, I could potentially wire it into a lighting system.

The remainder of my photos are NSFW, so here’s my conclusions. The articulation on this figure is largely pointless – it’s not very interesting, and the paintwork means moving her arms makes her look funny, though this is hidden by the symbiotic Tollg, when she’s wearing it. The hat looked kinda crap in the box, but looks better on, which was nice. The chamber is a solid addition, though mine had some mild scuffing, despite the outer box being sealed. Naked, she has the orangiest nipples, but she’s erm, accurate in other places. All in all, I like this figure, and I think I paid a fair price for her.

Here’s a pic of her without Tollg:

image

See what I mean by the super-orange nipples? Her body is anorexic, which I’m in two minds about. Also note they modelled her labia, which some castoffs don’t have, lol.

Here’s a closeup of her upper half:

image

That’s some orange boobage, with some paint smear that got in between her boobs. Guess she’s had some fun with spicy sauce? It’s a complimentary colour to the purple, but I dunno. It’s just a bit too unreal.

And here’s her back:

image

Some effort on the sculpting here, but seems like a “ok, that looks passable, done now” job. More accurate than a barbie, but lacking in polish, most notably her shoulderblades, the back of her knees, and those elbows seem to have boils on them. I won’t be seeing her back a lot though.

Secondary conclusion: She can be displayed naked, but I feel she was mostly designed with Tollg in mind. I have ordered the green version, so I may display one with, one without, or both with Tollg.

Figure Spotlight – Eren Yeager

I bought this fellah at a con, but amazingly wasn’t severely gouged for it. Would’ve been cheaper via Mandarake, but not by a whole lot, once shipping would be factored in.

So here he is, in his full glory:

image

One fairly noticeable paint flaw on his leg there – but he is a prize figure, so paint flaws aren’t unknown. Most of the pics I’ve seen of him have some noticeable paint flaw somewhere. In some ways, the sculpt was a bit too ambitious for the painters, and all the straps are prone to making the smallest mistake look large.

Front-on view:

image

The other downside to this figure: a few angles has his arm covering his face. Though the plus sides of this figure is his gear and jacket:

image

Both look really nice imo, and with the simpler paint job, it came out well.

Here’s a view of the gear from the back:

image

Almost looks like a different figure from the back. The wall makes a nice little addition to the figure, and gives it a lot more than a plain base would. Was one of the things that drew me to this figure. If I were to change one thing about this figure, it would be to move his arm so it wasn’t quite as in front of his face. This figure may also find itself becoming painting practice… if I can ensure that I’ll make less of a mess, instead of more.

Figure Spotlight – Racing Miku 2012

This figure was the first one I had to pay customs for! I remember coming across pictures of this figure and absolutely having to have it, due to the the transparent skirt and the pose. I was looking at Racing Miku figures, and the ones that I found, this was my favourite. And possibly still is.

image

Searching around, I found it at prices I couldn’t afford. Then I managed to find one preowned on AmiAmi at a price I could stretch to! So I ordered it. Waited. Got a slip from Parcelforce, paid my moneys, and waited a bit more. Then eventually, she was with me!

And I could stare at her belly:

image

Up until this point, I don’t think I’d seen pics of the actual base, so that was a bit of a surprise. The promo shots always have a clear base, so was expecting something plainer. Still not a big fan of this base – would personally prefer it to be a plain colour, but this is more “Miku”.

The pose is fun though, along with her expression. Her skirt is removable, but imo she looks far better with it on than without. She comes apart just underneath her chest so you can take it off.

Here’s the back of her hair:

image

Lots of movement, lots of painful areas to dust. Other similar figures tend to have more rubbery hair, so they’re not as fragile but this one is quite tough plastic. Can be a bit nerve-wracking dusting it, but it’s stayed in one piece thus far.

Still a quality figure in my collection, two years on.

Len Kagamine & Sam Flynn

Two figures that don’t really have anything to do with each other… but I opened both on the day of writing.

First up, Sam Flynn. Decided to pick him up at last, was one of the Disney Infinity figures I was pondering getting:

image

Here’s a closeup on his disc-holding hand. The scupltwork from this angle does look good:

image

And from the other side. His leg does look like it’s got an extra joint from this angle!

image

Overall, a good figure, especially for the price I paid. I wouldn’t want to pay a lot for them, so the clearance discounts on these figures has been nice.

Next up, Len Kagamine. I saw this figure on a Black Friday deal, but found it straight-up cheaper on Amazon UK. As I have a Prime trial right now, I got him the very next day after ordering. Here he is, out of the box:

image

D’awww. small and cute! He came in 3 pieces, plus the base. Not entirely sure why they didn’t package him assembled, lol. He even came with an instruction sheet, not that one is really needed!

Here is a shot of his right-hand side:

image

And one of his left:

image

And the obligatory back shot:

image

The figure is very nicely painted, and is the quality of a miniature scale. However he is tiny. I was expecting him to be small – after all, he was advertised as 1/12, but somehow getting him out of the box, he was still smaller than I thought:

image

Doesn’t exactly tower over the Infinity figure, but at least he has the quality of a larger scale put into the wash. I’d say he’s worth the RRP, but not much more. Largely, his price seems to have gone up in the aftermarket, but for his retail price, he’s a fine-if-small figure.

Non-genre Grab-Box (S) – other items 2

And this is the last of the stuff!

Iwako erasers

Well, there they are. They look OK, but not very interesting. Have ended up at work, and I used one of them once. Took them into work to see if anyone would want them, no takers. They can be bought pretty cheaply.

Splatoon clips

Bright n’ shiny. Not got any consoles, so not got Splatoon. I do like the squid designs, so these have ended up on my hanging rail.

Dragon Quest tote bag

Nice, sturdy tote bag. Not a fan of the design, but hey, decent bag.

Rockman.EXE badge

I ended up selling this, so I hope its new owner is happy with it :). Never really played any of the Megaman games, I did get roped into helping someone build a clone though. Didn’t get very far – the other person was basically relying on me to do all the coding, so I did some then gave up, lol. And that’s how I learned of Megaman’s existence.

Tapu Tapu Panda

Apparently this is a dude who appears on greeting cards in Japan. So I guess the UK equivalent would be the Me 2 You bear. OK looking dangler, and resides on one of my hanging rails.

Monster Hunter moshi tape

Some decorative tape. I know of the Monster Hunter series, but never played it, so not sure I’d get to use this. Did attempt to sell it, but got no takers. Its size is annoying on the posting front, as it’s juuust a bit too tall for large letter, making it expensive to post unless I open it.

Tom and Jerry rubber stamp

I vaguely tried to sell this, but unsurprisingly got no takers. Not sure what I’m going to do with this – if I find a Tom and Jerry fan, they might end up with it, or it may eventually get chucked.

And that’s it for this box! Hope you enjoyed reading.

Non-genre Grab-Box (S) – other items

This post will cover half of the remainder of the items in the box. There isn’t a really good way to split these and end up with sensible-sized posts, so the splitting is arbitrary. So, uh, enjoy!

Evangelion ‘towel’

image

These are called “hand towels”, but they’re flannel-sized, and not the size us in the West would call a hand towel. Could possibly use it as a flannel. It’s not the highest of quality, and a bit thin in places, I like it’s Evangelion, but it’s not a design that says “Evangelion” to me, so it’ll probably live in a drawer.

Nerv Vs Godzilla keyring

image

This is one of my favourite items in the box, and was one of the first things to go on my hanging rail. It’s been coated and feels like it’d survive punishment, but I don’t really want to risk using it as a keyring.

IBM Kei Nagai sticker

image

Cool-looking sticker, that does have a transparent background. Not yet stuck it to anything, but reminds me of the Ethereals in WoW. Did look up the thing he’s from, but I remember it didn’t sound worth investigating further.

MSGV: Phantom Pain

image

Decent-looking strap, have it hung up, but it is one of the candidates to be potentially replaced one day, as I don’t have any current interest in the MSG series.

Japan Post

image
image

Apparently Japan Post have a gatcha series! And this is what I got in mine. Sadly, the way it’s been designed means that it’s very hard to get to sit on a figure’s head. Not exactly an item one can expect!

Yo Kai Watch

image
image

This was some data sheets and some plastic pockets to store your Yo Kai watch faces, plus a shiny watch face. I’ve since seen a video of the Yo Kai Watch (thanks Nerd^3!), and decided I definitely don’t want one. The watch face is currently kicking around on my desk, and the pouches turned out to be useful for storing badges!

Kirby & Waddle Do

image

Yep, Kirby badges. Not a lot to say about these. Never played Kirby, was kinda before my time, am one generation out, lol. Nicely made, but not really of interest to me.

Chibi ship

Yep, you read that title right:

image

This was in a gatcha capsule, and is a ‘chibified’ version of a real ship. The ‘instructions’ for it gave you facts about the real thing. Didn’t know you could chibify ships, shows what I know!

Non-genre Grab Box (S)

This was a box I got some time ago, which I started preparing a blog for, but never completed. So now I have my own blog, it’s time to post it 😀

Here is an overview of what the box contained:

image

This blog will be about the figures and Re-Ment sets.

Mickey Mouse

image

This was the “star item” of the box. Alas, this was not something I was particularly interested in, and has been sold.

Pikachu

image

A plushie pikachu. Something else I wasn’t interested in. Looks nice for what it is, but I’m not a Pokemon fan. Did try to sell it, but hasn’t sold thus far.

Hecatonchier

image

This is one of my favourite items from the box. Not truly familiar with the FF series, but this dude looks cool. And So. Many. Arms. It could sure give you a hand!

Baby Tiragon

image

As it was a preowned box, most of the random item boxes were already open, and this was one of the open ones. Out of the things on the box, this was the least ‘cool’, so wasn’t surprised to get it. It’s a decent enough figure, but probably not worth trying to sell, so it sits atop one of my detolfs.

Mothra Larva

Here’s the large packaging it came in:

image

And the thing itself:

image

Looked better when it was obscured by the packaging. I feel kinda sorry for anyone who won this in the Ichiban Kuji! You pays your money, you gets… your poop. It’s not very detailed, and has zero paintwork, which contributes significantly to it looking like an oddly shaped poop than a larva. It now lives amongst Poundland tat, and hasn’t eaten any of it, so I don’t see it mutating into Mothra any time soon.

Petit Sushi-Go-Round

image

These Re-Ment sets I didn’t initially open, but they sat around… so I opened them. All three were sealed. This one is a sushi set, and you can cut up the info sheet to put things on the screen. Not yet put anything on the screen, lol.

Toy Story Toy Carnival

image

This is probably my favourite of the three, as it’s toy story. Not much to say about it, but I do like the way the milkshake is Jessie-themed.

Rilakkuma Leisure Snack

image

Weirdly, this one wasn’t on MFC when I looked, and I’m not big into Re-Ments, so didn’t bother adding it. Is cute, but the bits just sorta hang around on the wardrobe shelf.

Wonda-Chan Asuka

Set up a bunch of watches on the Mandarake pages for this figure, and it didn’t take too long to strike gold! So despite last month’s overspend, this was one thing that was allowed to “jump the fence”.

And here’s her back:

The pair looking great together, chilling with Etna:

Pleased I was finally able to obtain the pair at a reasonable price. On most other sites, they’re more money than I wanted to pay, but Mandarake delivered in the end :D.

Matoi Figma

Finally, she’s here! Feel like I’ve been waiting a lifetime for this to be re-released, especially as her release was delayed. The re-release had good timing – had not long watched Kill La Kill, when the re-releases were announced. T’was an instant pre-order!

And she doesn’t disappoint – the joints feel good, and I love her ‘angry face’.

Full body shot:

And a shot of her back:

Love the details on this figure, and I don’t have any large complaints about her. Scissor sword in the slightly open holding hand doesn’t always like to stay put, but the other holding hands are a bit tight. Think I did heat it up a bit to get her to grip a little harder. She does come with the other half of the scissors, but decided to not put that on display.

Ryuko also looks great next to Satsuki:

Pleased to have the pair, without having to break the bank :).

Variable Action Heroes Devilman

After last month’s overspend, I have decided to dial back somewhat this month and this was ‘the purchase’. Was thinking of buying a bunch of Devilman stuff off Mandarake, but found this for a good price on Amazon, and shipped within the EU, so no import duty either :D.

He’s an awesome-looking dude, and his body has much poseablity, which makes him a fun figure. Here’s his wings and tail, which come detached in the box:

He also has another pair of hands as fists, but haven’t used these – much prefer the claws. Here’s his back showing the attachment of the wings:

They’re on a ball joint at the bottom, giving some poseability, but sadly, not a lot. There’s also a hinge at the “elbow” of his wings so you can do silly things like this:

Largely, this joint isn’t particularly useful for posing imo, but… it’s there. Sadly on one side, it doesn’t allow you put the wing “together” properly, which I’ve seen on other people’s pics of him. Here’s a pic showing that:

Here’s him from the side, after I managed to get him “flying” on my spare PAK stand:

And standing is by far the hardest thing he does! Even with the PAK stand, he’s a bitch to get standing and stay standing, due to the wing weight. If you wished to display him wingless, you’d probably have a much easier time of it… but man… those wings. The above shot also shows an annoying flaw with mine – one wing has a bit of purple paint smear :(. Seeing as I bought it from a reseller, it’s not really worth the faff of seeing if they’ll do anything about it tbh.

Other than that, he’s really well painted, and has a very striking appearance. He has a lot of flexibility in his joints, though I’d wish for a bit of redesign in the wings to allow them to flex more. His middle might have one too many joints – wouldn’t mind getting rid of the bottom one so he doesn’t keep trying to hip-thrust!

All in all, I think he was a good purchase, and I’m pleased to have him :).
